Reger Rizzo & Darnall LLP is a multi-disciplinary law firm of more than 80 attorneys and staff, headquartered in Philadelphia, with offices in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York. After beginning with a small office in 1992 and growing to multiple offices, the firm hired a manager of information systems in 2001 to oversee their servers and desktops. As the firm continued to expand further, their IT needs stretched too far for one person to handle. Inadequate remote access, inefficient technology scaling, aging infrastructure, and a need for stronger security measures eventually led the firm to seek a new solution. In 2022, Reger Rizzo & Darnall moved to the Boxtop cloud, alleviating their IT issues, and taking the pressure off their internal IT department.
Throughout the firm’s 30+ years of operating, Reger Rizzo & Darnall added multiple new locations and hired dozens of attorneys and staff. As a result, Paul Toms, Manager of Information Systems, found himself stretched thin with a multitude of responsibilities.
Scaling servers, licenses, and IT resources became progressively difficult and costly, and Paul found himself with insufficient time for critical upgrades. The firm’s remote access solutions, a combination of RDS servers and GoToMyPC, suffered from performance issues. “None of the solutions in place were ideal when everyone was forced to go remote,” Paul says. The fact that Zoom and Microsoft Teams did not work within their remote desktop environment only compounded this issue. In addition, Reger Rizzo & Darnall’s aging servers were in need of upgrades and replacements, and the firm was hearing increased demand from clients for more extensive cybersecurity protections. Frequent upgrades were needed to address the rapidly evolving threat landscape, and the process became expensive and onerous to manage.
Faced with mounting accessibility, scalability, security, and infrastructure challenges, the firm weighed their options. One of the firm’s colleagues referred them to Tabush Group, which ultimately lead Reger Rizzo & Darnall to explore the benefits of moving to the Boxtop cloud.
After discussions with Tabush Group's founder, Morris Tabush, Reger Rizzo & Darnall learned of Boxtop, Tabush Group’s Desktop as a Service (DaaS) cloud solution. Boxtop offers a comprehensive cloud solution that addressed each of the firm’s challenges. Paul says, “Boxtop checked all the boxes for our IT needs.” Although the firm considered other cloud providers, Tabush Group’s personalized, holistic approach swayed the firm. “We felt like we would get individualized attention, and not just be a number,” says Paul. “The way Tabush Group presented themselves as a company, it was more personal. We got a feeling we would be in better hands with them," says Louis Chiarelli, Reger Rizzo & Darnall’s Firm Administrator.
In the time leading up to the cutover, Tabush Group planned the migration process with extensive preparations and strategic discussions with firm leadership. “Tabush Group was really sincere to make sure that nothing would be disruptive to our firm,” Louis explains. During onboarding, a dedicated support team swiftly resolved any issues that arose, ensuring a smooth migration.
Once the migration was complete, the firm immediately began to realize the benefits of Boxtop. “From an end-user perspective, it was perfectly smooth, almost seamless. We came in and began working on day 1 – almost shockingly smooth, this was too easy,” Louis says. Boxtop’s ease of accessibility and robust security gave the firm confidence to work from home and on the go. Louis says, “People can work from any of our offices, from home, or on the road and have a consistent experience. Being anywhere and being able to hop on and access my desktop is seamless.”
Moving to Boxtop also took the pressure off of their internal IT manager and provided the firm with instant scalability as they continue to grow. Because backup and business continuity are built into Boxtop, Reger Rizzo & Darnall never have to worry about outages, extreme weather, or transportation issues affecting their access. “From the IT side, I don’t have to worry about hardware failures or keeping servers updated,” says Paul. “Since switching to the cloud with Boxtop, I’ve never had to catch an early or weekend train into the city to restart a server!” And, instead of managing and implementing costly updates themselves, the enterprise-level cybersecurity built into Boxtop provided the firm with peace of mind and increased confidence that their data, and that of their clients, was secure.
With Boxtop, Reger Rizzo & Darnall enhanced every aspect of their firm’s IT, eliminated their issues, and gained accessibility, scalability, security, and a seamless experience. "Almost a year in, users are still raving about how much easier it is to use Boxtop,” explains Paul. Now, Reger Rizzo & Darnall can focus on serving their clients and growing the firm, without worrying about their IT.
